Apple has definitely prepared well for the worldwide release of the iPhone 3G. On the eve of that release, Apple has also launched the AppStore a day earlier.
The AppStore is one of the biggest feature of the iPhone 3G. Being a 3G device, the iPhone will have faster data connection to the internet via the cellular infrastructure which will allw users t have more connectivity and ability to use more applications. Also available on the AppStore is the new firmware for the iPhone, the iPhone 2.0. This upgrade will allow first generation iPhone users to access the AppStore and purchase and use applications on the internet via Wi-Fi or EDGE. Tomorrow's iPhone 3G customers however will already have the iPhone 2.0 and AppStore preinstalled.
The AppStore feature about 500 applications. Most are paid applications but more than 25% or over 125 of the applications are available free of charge.
Steve Jobs considers this launch, "This is the biggest launch of my career."
Users of the AppStore will be able to use it integrated with iTunes. Actually the AppStore is also known as iTunes 7.7 . The categories for the apps are Business, Education, Entertainment, Finance, Games, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, Music, Navigation, News, Photography, Productivity, Reference, Social Networking, Sports, Travel, Utilities, and Weather.
This launch of the AppStore is several hours short of the published 9AM PST. However, since New Zealanders will be having first dibs on the iPhone 3G (+12 GMT), the early launch is just right.
BTW, by now the New Zealanders are gong crazy on the iPhone. Lines outside US Apple stores are still growing with more than a night's sleep to go. Ironic, the last to launch is California, where Apple is based.
