iPhone 3G Launch in US Overloads Servers, Users Can't Activate
2008-07-11 17:22:00
Well, the day has come for the iPhone fans. June 11. The day the better and faster iPhone 3G is launched worldwide, and the US gets it last especially those in the Pacific time zone (ironically the home town of the iPhone).
Campers have folded up their chairs as their long wait came to an end with Apple Stores opening across the nation. And while those in Australia and New Zealand have gone to bed with their newly activated and fully usable toys, Americans have it differently. The in-store activation of the iPhone 3G have been failing. AT&T and Apple servers are maxed out.
You read it right, many of the excited iPhone first day buyers are disappointed and are leaving the Apple Stores with bricked iPhone 3G's. What's worst, first generation iPhone users who are having their firmwares upgraded today are hitting a wall which also leaves their iPhones bricked / useless.
Apple has not released any advisories yet but Steve Jobs is most likely breathing down the necks of his engineers, support teams and AT&T to get the App Store, iTunes 7.7 and iPhone 2.0 and activations up and running again.
Although last year's launch of the iPhone was significantly bigger in terms of the number of people lining up to get the first generation of the multi-touch screen device, this year, the number of people trying to activate and upgrade all at the same time add up to much more than last year considering that there are three gadgets trying to get the same update, 1st gen iPhone, iPod Touch and iPhone 3G.
Many iPhone fanboys and girls are considering this the day of the iFail.
