Microsoft Plans to Make Phone Numbers Obsolete
2008-05-30 17:38:59

I saw the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" on TV again this afternoon. It's a movie that portrayed how Steve Jobs and Bill Gates started their companies and ultimately how Microsoft became the Microsoft we know today. Microsoft took the world by storm when Bill Gates managed to convince the largest computer makers in the world (then IBM) to integrate Gates' MS-DOS and eventually Windows.
That was nearly 30 years ago, the rest is history.
Now Gates' is heading for retirement (semi at least) this June but he still has plans to maybe again change the world with his technology. This time, it's not just in computers but mostly in Telecom. ...more
I wish I could say that I go to Zivity for the artistic photography. Problem is, there's a lot of nude chicks in there! So, weak a man am I, loves Zivity more for the hot naked ladies than the interesting photography. Besides, Zivity is based on promoting beauty, I suppose drooling over hot naked women is part of that. Aw come on, stop smirking, it's true.
Anyway, a lucky puppet had I great interview with Zivity's Chief Strategy Officer, Cyan Banister. Lucky (especially for the puppet's handler and camera man) because Cyan Banister is hot and you'll see more of her near the end.
Cyan was there to promote Zivity of course. Here's her official "About Us" description: ...more

Wow.
The release of the 3G iPhone is one of the events to highlight my year. I had my sights set on getting the new iPhone 'til today.
I've been following Google's mobile OS since they announced it and always believed that it would be something great, better than Windows Mobile, Symbian and MacOS for the iPhone. Android's interface when screenshots first appeared seemed to be enough, however, today at the Google I/O conference, they demoed an Android running on what seems to look like an iPhone (it's probably a Samsung or HTC). OMG, it was so cool. ...more
It's an honest mistake. Besides, not everybody will notice.
I gotta give it to Google, the design for the Google I/O shirt is great. Creative, relevant, witty and wrongly spelled. All those adjectives are true.
Anyway, it's the Google I/O conference and of course there'll be thousands of developers present there. Geeks who probably speak in binary 1's and 0's. You'd actually expect too that Google would have a spell checker especially for a design on a shirt they'll be giving away in the thousands. However, Murphy's law happens, if something could go wrong, it would. And it did. ...more

Before you start to wonder why it's all Google today, well, there's this Google I/O Conference happening today at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco. So there's a lot of new stuff Google's unleashing.
Anyway, the I/O conference is a Google hosted event where they invite developers to show them new products they can develop using the Google platform. These products come in mostly in APIs.
Today's special on the Google menu is the launch of the Google Earth API which allows developers to embed Google Earth maps in 3D in any site. This development unties Google Earth from its desktop client and brings the amazing Google-Maps-in-3D-rendering to the browser. ...more
Google is at it again.
It's funny how Google reminds us of certain dates when something significant in human history has happened. A simple change in Google's logo on their homepage puts certain historic events back in the headlines.
Today is the 55th anniversary of the first successful ascent to Mount Everest. In 1953, Sir E. Hilary and his sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay etched their names in in the history books as the first men to stand on top of the world, the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. ...more

Yahoo has filed a lawsuit against a, well, there's the rub, unknown group of scammers/spammers. The accused is a group of spammers who used Yahoo's name in a phising scam through email.
The scam was pretty simple. Victims would receive an email with a seemingly credible sender (somebody maybe from Yahoo) informing them that they have won a lottery and must claim the cash prize. The email would contain a link and anybody who would follow that thinking that that was the way to cliam his winnings, would end up being charged hundreds of dollars instead.
The problem for Yahoo now is tracking down the spammers. With all their technology and connections, they plan to pinpoint the scammers by tracing their emails back to the source. ...more
And you thought they were going to launch a bomb. Well not exactly.
Russian nuclear power websites were attacked last week by hackers. The intent was to spread false rumors of a nuclear leak at the plant in forums and while doing that, make the official websites inaccessible to the public. For example, spread panic and shut down 9-1-1.
A spokesman for the Rosatom state nuclear corporation said the cyber attacks had been planned and coincided with the release of the reports. ...more
Alton Towers Resort will be piloting a "PDA Free Zone" during May Half Term (May 25th - June 1st inclusive), to encourage parents to disconnect from the office and reconnect fully with their families. PDA police will be onsite to enforce the ban and any adult caught using a PDA whilst at the Resort will be asked to report to one of five "PDA Drop Off Zones" where they can safely leave their PDA's for the day. If the scheme is successful, it will be introduced full time.
Russell Barnes, Divisional Director for the Alton Towers Resort explains; "What we have here is the ultimate short break location where every member of the family can unwind and have fun. We feel it's so important for parents and kids to focus on nothing more than having the best possible time, we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind!"
Implementing the scheme will have about 2 dozen "PDA Spotters" in the park. If anybody is spotted using a PDA, smartphone or any other suspicious work-related gadget, the individual will be compelled and even escorted to drop-off their device in a secure deposit area. There is no mention as to how much compelling the spotters will make and what sanctions the park will administer on violators. ...more
