We all know that Google changes their logo a little bit on days that are special. Like on Christmas or Thanksgiving.  Google even changes its logo for lesser known holidays and totally forgotten ones like the Lego anniversary.  Today, Google celebrates the birthday of Alexander Graham Bell.

And why not? Bell invented the telephone, the backbone of today's modern communication (I came up with that myself for a lack of a better description).  Here's a little exerpt from Bell's Wikipedia entry :

"Alexander Graham Bell (3 March 1847 – 2 August 1922) was an eminent scientist, inventor and innovator. Most often associated with the invention of the telephone, Bell was also called "the father of the deaf".^[1] His father, grandfather and brother had all been associated with work on elocution and speech, and both his mother and wife were deaf, profoundly influencing Bell's life's work.^[2] His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices that eventually culminated in Bell being awarded the first U.S. patent for the invention of the telephone in 1876." 

It's a great thing Google does these logo changes when they do.  Today, I would never know that it was Mr. Bell's birthday.  Though it wouldn't really matter, I'd like to think that we still honor those who made life as we know it possible.  Besides, without the telephone, all this would never be possible.

So Happy Birthday Mr. Bell, and Thank You.
