Rumors of laying another under-sea communications fiber optic cable between Asia and the US have been confirmed.  The project code named Unity will cross the Pacific ocean connecting Japan and the US and of course will serve the entire Pacific seaboard of both hemispheres.  Google and five other companies, Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, KDDI Corp., Pancet and SingTel will lead the $300 million project.

Unity will primarily serve teh demand for the increasing communications requirements between Japan and the US as well as the projected steady increase of internet traffic.  Asian countries will benefit from Unity as well, increasing the existing trans Pacific cabl capacity by 20% with the potential add up to 7.68 terabits per second.

Project Unity will begin immediately and will be completed in early 2010.  The increased cable capacity between Asia and US will be good news to many outsourcing companies based in Asia.
