Google Suggest has moved from the Google Labs into the mainstream.
"Today we're excited because Google Suggest will be "graduating" from Labs and available by default on the Google.com homepage. Over the next week, we'll be rolling this out so that more and more of you will start seeing a list of query suggestions when you start typing into the search box." [Google Official Blog]
Google Suggest if you've never encountered it before is an automatic query formulator. In other words, it puts words in your mouth. Now there's a lot of good and bad when it comes to this kind of searching. Good things here is what you'll read in the Google Blog, reduction of spelling errors, save some keystrokes, and get real time suggestions.
However, getting real time suggestions sometimes might influence the searcher. Instead of looking for something so specific, some users might just use any suggestion they get from Google instead of thinking what they were searching for in the first place.
In Google's defense, the system is only a suggestion tool; nobody is controlling the user on what to search for. The user is still in control.
