It's another bumming day for downloaders/freeloaders. Following the report of TV-links shutting down, another "illegal" sharing site was raided in Amsterdam. Oink.cd, a BitTorrent tracker that allows its invite-only users to download pre-release albums.

Apparently, Oink.cd has been under investigation for the past 2 years by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) and the BPI (British Phonographic Industry). According to the IFPI, Oink has about 180,000 members and Oink has become the primary source of music piracy .

Oink basically makes the pre released albums available to its members (who are also sharing it to other people) a couple of weeks before the official release dates. This practice is common digital piracy and the repercussions on the music industry have been drastic since the beginning.

The owner of Oink, was arrested in Middlesbrough, UK by the British police while the servers were raided in Amsterdam by Dutch authorities. The owner was a 24-year old man and his dad's home and employer's office were also raided in lieu of the illegal activity.

Again, this is piracy we fuelled and cherished just like TV-links, bummer.
