Just last month there have been 2 high profile arrests for copyright infringement on the web. The first was the shutting down of TVLinks, a UK based site that hosts links to various video content (movies, shows etc.) online. The second was the raid on Oink, a members-only BitTorrent tracker. In both cases the owners to the site were arrested.

Yesterday, another widely used and popular BitTorrent tracker was forced to go offline. Demonoid, which tracks and hosts torrent files regardless of copyright went off the grid after receiving threats from the Canadian Recording Industry Association. Though demonoid is not a canadian company, they rent their servers in Canada and that company received the threat from the CRIA.

All Demonoid can say at the moment is the only message remaining on their site, "The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding."

Sad to say, all the wonderful and free content is going underground and authorities are beginning to hunt down the remaining sites directly or indirectly involved in copyright infringement.
