Windows XP has been here a long time, 5 years (and counting).  Released in 2003, it has had two service packs and since then it's the world's operating system of choice.

Windows Vista was supposed to takeover and compete directly with the Mac OS X but due to many complaints, Vista was not able to convert most of the XP users.  Even with distribution bundled with new PC Packages, Vista is still being replaced by XP.

And so the world loves Windows XP.  Recent rumors say that the Vista SP1 will be cancelled to be replaced with another XP service pack, SP3.

So what about the June 30 deadline?  Well, Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer offered a glimmer of hope on Thursday to fans of the company's Windows XP operating system, saying the company may reconsider its decision to stop selling it soon.

The trend of Ultramobile PC's powered byLinux operating systems was shot into overdrive by the Asus EeeP.  However, when it was discovered that WindowsXP runs great on the UMPC's Asus is now shipping XP- based EeePC's.  This is one factor that Microsoft cannot ignore.

Moreover, Dell computers is rumored to be selling desktop and laptop packages bundled with Windows XP until 2012.  But these rumors aren't founded yet and Steve Ballmer says, "if customer feedback varies, we can always wake up smarter."  What that means exactly is still unknown.
