Om Malik, founder of Giga Omni Media announced earlier today their completion of another venture capital round worth $4.5 million. Giga Omni Media is the online media company Malik started with his GigaOm technology blog 27 months ago.
The new venture capital round was led by Alloy Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm with over $1 billion under management. Also participating in the round were GigaOm's previous investor True Ventures. Angel investors of the company gave the go-ahead for both rounds.
The new funds will be used to expand Giga Omni Media's expansion as well as enhancement of their Technology platform, content offerings, and their portfolio of publications, and their Events and Briefings businesses.
GigaOm is one of the tech world's most popular resources. Om Malik is considered a celebrity in the Web 2.0 industry as well as a credible journalist giving facts, figures details and insights on the indutry's mooks and crannies. He started with a single blog, GigaOm, and later expanded to a network of online publications including WebWorkerDaily, NewTeeVee, Ostatic, Earth2Tech, and recently acquired two blogs, jkOntherun and TheAppleBlog.
Alloy Ventures's general partner Ammar Hanafi will be joining Giga Omni Media's board of directors as part of the deal.
As part of the announcement, naturally, Om Malik thanks his readers.
More importantly, dear readers, please accept my extreme gratitude for your support - through good times and bad times, for without you it would not have been possible. Thank you.
